USOPHT Field Update
After the successful launch of the Federal Undercover Habitat Bird (code word FU-HB) in 2010, the USOPHT gained significant advantage over most of the pheasant population in many areas of Nebraska specifically northwest of Kearney! We will continue to use FU-HB to gain tactical data on the ground.
The only significant drawback with the FU-HB is that most of the recon data is on the ground. We need considerable aerial support to get a complete picture of flock migrations and numbers of birds. We are now conducting trials on the Federal Undercover Satellite Predator, code word FU-SP. The FU-SP is also an unmanned craft much like the FU-HB. The FU-SP can cover large areas in glide mode and is nearly silent. The only issue with the FU-SP is that sometimes drunk hunters take a shot at it mistaking it for a pheasant. A special armor coating has been added to repel shotgun blasts. This coating was used successfully used on the Federal Undercover Bionic Snake (code word FU-BS) and was retrofitted successfully. “FU-SP?, I say it every day…sometimes multiple times”, commented John Bryant, the Engineer in charge of the FU program. “FU-SP, HB and BS really makes my day!”. Below is a picture of the data pulled by the FU-SP showing all of the pheasants (identified by red dots) in a specific land mass. This area would be a poor place to hunt pheasants.
