Time to start planning

Hi all...long time no BLOG! I just thought I'd start the conversation about what we are planning to do if anything at the Pharm for the up-coming 2009 feasant season. We had talked about getting some birds out there and some corn or milo. Now, as you already know, I live in Uhlana (the Lindsey pronunciation) so my input will be mostly research and monetary. We need to do some research now so we can be ready to do what we need to do before we miss the growing season.

Some things to think about:
Milo, corn, who will plant it, take care of it, where to put it, the cost
Birds, how to get em, where to raise em, the cost
Posting, how are the signs? do we need new ones?
Dog trailer, any needs? outside boxes got wet...what's the fix?
New members, I have several folks inquire about going...do we want to set a limit?
Where to stay, the bunk house is now a store...where can we put folks...basement?
Reconnecting with the Palmyra boys, new places to hund.
Get Hartington arranged, over night? day trip?

Ideas...comments...LP

The leaks in the dog boxes will be an easy fix. I have that covered. The license for the trailer will be renewed in the month of March. Very minor touchups will be necessary before it gets used again. As far as birds are concerned, there is a pheasant hatchery in Nebraska City.

Having hunted before in Hartington, I will say that there were more birds there than anywhere we have ever hunted...even Fictum's when he was farming badly. However, I would recommend the pursuit of reconnecting with the Palmyra Wilhelm's and Royals as well as the rebuilding the birdiness of the farm and local areas before adding the extra time and expense to go to Hartington. If we have local success and great places to hund, the 3 hour drive to Hartington shouldn't be necessary. Plus, when I was there last time, I inquired about getting reservations in the local hotels for the next year and learned that they get booked for the next year at checkin for the current year. In other words, unless they built a bunch of new hotels, there will be no room at the "inn".

Pheasant chicks are available in Nebraska City at:

Michener Pheasant Pharm
RR1 Box 171C
Nebraska City, NE 68410

Email: Pheasantpharm@navix.net

The rest of the necessary information for raising and stocking pheasants should be available through the Nebraska Game and parks commission. It might be a nice hobby for someone.

I think LP has some valid points and it is my opinion, for what it's worth, and perhaps that is just a "tinkers dam", that we leave all the pre-planning and logistics of this ears hunD to BJ (aka know as BIG Jim Mc).

His guidance and direction were invaluable last year and probably instrumental in my not firing my gun a SINGLE time.

Jeesh, I apologise, here it is over 4 months from opening day and I have already started picking on Big Jim.

I now hereby vow and swear that this year I WILL NOT do that ANYMORE, but leave it up to others on the team, should the need arise!

Possibly Sister TN can assume that duty?

I am serious as a heart attack!
