Tidbits

Got my license yesterday. Nebraska has a great on-line system for your license. Easy to use. Remembers you from last year. Print your own license...but my color cartridge was out of ink so I'm afraid my license is black and white.

Once we finalize where we can hunt in Hartington, we need to decide if it is worth it to spend the night. So you NEBRASKAN's need to give us an update on the hunding in Hardingdon! By the way...make sure we have written permission to hund...while it was fun getting run off of every farm we entered "with permission", we might want to make it a little easier this year.

My back is killing me and my left leg is numb. Saw the back doc today and I am scheduled for shots the week of October 11th. That will give me 2 weeks to recover from the shots. Usually takes about 2 weeks for the cortizone to work it's way through my system...cold sweats...worth it though. I'll be doing back flips opening day!
A little Dr. Fun!

I downloaded and printed my license today. I also 'saved' the pdf file which allows me to print the license again in case I lose the one I have. That is cool. In the old days, we would send the application with a check and keep our fingers crossed while we waited to get it back before departure.

An update on the Brittany, Manny. He has been worked on the 'wing on the string', he accompanied me while shooting clay pigeons and is not gun shy, I am now working on getting him to come when called 100% of the time. He is now in 'boot camp' until departure. Last Saturday, he accidently got out the front door and began to 'hunt' the neighborhood. He worked each yard beautifully, BUT, when I wanted him to "come", he thought it was optional. He will learn...but my neighbor is the President of the Humae Society and unless I want to get arrested, I have to be discreet with my "attutude adjustment training" while in the neighborhood.
He is a smart dog. But don't expect a "finished" Brittany this year.

Oh, another tidbit....

While at a computer store with Len, I found a battery powered LED light that attaches to the bill or brim of a cap and enables 'hands free" lighting. HB had one for his cap last year. At Bass Pro Shop, they wanted $14.99 for one. The one I got today, was $4.99 and works the same way....

JB: I find that a "Red Ryder" BB gun is a great training aid for getting a dog to respond to your call or whistle. It doesn't have enough power to break the dog's skin but it stings and lets him know you can reach him even when he is not close to you. Let him get out about 30 yards or so and call him. If he ignores you pop him on the rump with a BB (be careful not to hit him around the head). The first time or two he'll think a bee has stung him, but he'll soon learn it was you. It only took about 3 or 4 times with my other dogs (Bubba included) and it works great. Stan

Stan,

That is a great idea. I will see if I can locate one.
